Echocardiogram

Echocardiogram

What is an echocardiogram?

An echocardiogram is a test that uses ultrasound waves to create pictures of the heart. It can show the size and shape of the heart, as well as how well the heart's chambers and valves are working.

Echocardiograms are non-invasive and usually painless. The test can also detect any abnormalities or problems with the heart such as:

  • Rapid or irregular heartbeats
  • A heart murmur
  • Chest pain or discomfort
  • Swelling in the legs, ankles, or feet
  • Fatigue or weakness
  • Heart attack

Benefits of a Echocardiogram Scan:

  • Non-invasive diagnosis: An echocardiogram provides a detailed view of the heart without the need for invasive procedures, reducing the risk of complications.
  • No exposure to radiation: Unlike other imaging tests, echocardiograms do not use ionizing radiation, reducing the risk of harmful exposure.
  • Monitoring of heart treatments: Echocardiograms can be used to monitor the effectiveness of treatments for heart conditions, allowing for adjustments to be made as needed.
  • Assessment of heart function: Echocardiograms provide information on the heart's size, shape, and function, helping to diagnose a wide range of heart conditions.
